Oadby are a very pleasant and easy going
ring of bells. Although they are upstairs it is not a long way
up, and access is easy. Access is through the church, normally
via the south door.
There is an active local band, which
rings all levels from rounds and call-changes through to surprise
major, and we regularly ring quarter peals. Visitors are
always welcome.
There is a toilet in the church.
Oadby is a Central Council accredited
Ringing Centre. < More information

| The bells |
| |
Up until
1901 there were four bells in the tower, three of them
dating from 1600. In 1901, the old four bells were
recast into a ring of six bells (tenor 12-3-15), by
Taylor's of Loughborough. At the time, the bells
were rung from the ground floor, but in 1980, a new
floor was built, and the ringing chamber was moved
upstairs (but only a very short flight of 10 steps).
In 1988, two trebles were added, cast by Eijsbout's of
Asten (Netherlands), the work being done by Eayre &
Smith. |

-
The
treble is known as the Children's Bell,
and was paid for by donations given by
many families in thanks for, and in
memory of children. The band round
the top of the bell depicts children at
play.
-
The fifth was cast from
the metal from the old ring of four
bells.
-
Although the bells are
nominally in the key of G, they are
actually nearly quarter of a tone above
G. In some texts the key is quoted
as Ab.

| Where are
we? |
| |
Oadby is on the A6, on the south-east outskirts of
Leicester. St. Peter's church is on the junction
of London Road and Wigston Road. |
| |
-
Grid reference : SK 623004
|
|
|
| |
Parking near the church is limited:
-
There is plenty
of parking in two large car parks off The Parade,
about 5 minutes walk from the church.
-
At off peak
times (evenings and Sundays) there is parking on
Wigston Road, on the south side of the church.
-
The car park at the St. Peter's Centre, across Wigston Road from the
church, is a public car park, but there is sometimes space.
-
Please note that the
car parks by the British Legion and the Walter Charles Centre, close to the
church, belong to those establishments, and should not be used.
-
There is some
short-term parking (40 min or 60 min) on London
Road.
